DSS Arrests Miyetti Allah Leader Bello Bodejo Hours After Declaring APC Senatorial Ambition in Taraba
Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have reportedly arrested Bello Bodejo, hours after he declared his intention to contest for the Taraba Central Senatorial seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The arrest reportedly took place on Thursday night in Jalingo, shortly after the Miyetti Allah leader arrived earlier in the day aboard a private jet at the Danbaba Suntai Airport around 1:20 p.m.
According to reports gathered by The Voice of the Masses, Bodejo was welcomed by thousands of supporters from the five local government areas that make up the Taraba Central Senatorial District.
Sources disclosed that the DSS operatives arrested Bodejo after he visited some security agencies’ offices alongside close political associates following his appearance at the APC state secretariat in Jalingo.
Speaking on the development, Bodejo’s aide, Umar, revealed that the security operatives ordered everyone accompanying the APC aspirant to leave the premises before detaining him.
“At the moment, we do not know where he has been taken to,” Umar stated.
He further alleged that the same security personnel who escorted Bodejo from Abuja to Jalingo later carried out the arrest.
“We are yet to be informed of the reason for his arrest, and our major concern now is that we do not know where he is being detained,” he added.
Before his arrest, Bodejo had publicly announced that he had purchased the APC senatorial nomination form and would not step down for any other aspirant contesting for the Taraba Central seat.
“I am in this race to win, and nobody is going to force me to step down,” Bodejo declared while addressing journalists at the APC secretariat.
He also stated that tat
consensus committee reportedly constituted by Agbu Kefas to engage aspirants across the three senatorial zones had not contacted him.
“The consensus committee set up by the governor has not contacted me, and let me make it clear that I will not step down for anybody, no matter the pressure,” he said.
This is not the first time the Miyetti Allah president has faced arrest by security agencies.
In 2024, DSS operatives arrested Bodejo over allegations linked to the establishment of a vigilante group in Nasarawa State.
He was reportedly arrested at the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore headquarters located at the Tundun Maliya Cattle Market along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway in Karu Local Government Area.
At the time, DSS operatives accompanied by soldiers of the Nigerian Army allegedly stormed the organisation’s office and took him into custody.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to officially disclose the reason behind Bodejo’s latest arrest, leaving many questioning whether the development is connected to the ongoing political tension surrounding the Taraba Central Senatorial race or an ongoing security investigation.
